Fishing
October 13, 2008
My friend Betsy has been going fishing with her husband as long as they have been married. For most of the time, it was Julian who would fish, and Betsy who would admire the scenery.
For both of them, however, cooking and eating a delicious meal of absolutely fresh fish was a large part of the appeal.
"We have certain things we do with stripers, certain things we do with blues," Betsy says. Recently, Betsy has begun to catch fish herself. "To feel life at the end of the line, it's amazing. All the squeamishness goes away. And then we have something really good to eat."
The funny thing is that, over the years, they have extended their fishing expeditions to include their local fish store.
"We pick the best piece of fish in the case," Betsy says. "We get home as fast as possible. We expend a lot of care on it."
That's for sure. But it's worth it. For this couple, fish meals are part of the marital glue.
